Esterian Conquest - War Game of the Millennium
Bob Bitchin
To get a fair description or interpretation of a program is truly a matter
of taste. So that you could compare your own tastes with mine, I will give
a brief synopsis of the kind of games I like. I enjoy highly strategic games
such as Risk (fun, but simple), Chess (fun, but boring), Global War online
game (fun, but unfair advantage given to first player of the day), etc.
ESTERIAN CONQUEST is the BEST online strategic game I have ever played.
The idea is that during the day (any time) you enter or change orders for
your empire. No orders are actually executed until a pre-determined time set
by the Sysop, at which time all orders for all 'empires' are carried out
simultaneously (usually early morning).
You begin with 1 planet, some ground forces, and 4 fleets. The goal is to
conquer the entire galaxy. You have many means to reach this goal; but up
to 24 other people are aiming for the same goal. There comes a time when
there are no more uninhabited planets left to colonize. You start running
into other empires planets and fleets and perhaps even having some
communication with them (you can send e-mail from one empire to another
within the game). At this time, there is only one way to expand further...
TAKE PLANETS BY FORCE!!!!
Things start heating up... you bump up against another empire while trying
to expand your own... there's no more room to grow... empires become
restless and nervous... warnings start flying from empire to empire...
"If you try to take even one of my planets, there will be all-out WAR!"...
The inevitable happens.
WAR HAS BROKEN OUT!!! You receive a message from one of your fleets saying
it was attacked by Empire #7 "Gladiators"... your fleet was able to defeat
the ambush but it lost several ships... another message... Planet XYZ has
been invaded and Conquered by Empire#7 "Gladiators"! NOW HE'S DONE IT!
Time for retaliation. You set Empire#7 as an enemy, and start massing for
battle.
Do you have enough planets to provide enough production to survive the
onslaught from the "Gladiator" Empire? Once you conquer that one, how will
you go on to conquer all the other empires as well? Perhaps a
non-aggression pact with a nearby empire so you can concentrate your forces
on only 1 front!
There are many dangers and victories awaiting you in...
ESTERIAN CONQUEST!
